Maintenance

How often should an HVAC system be serviced in North Carolina?

Why twice a year maintenance makes sense in the Triangle and what each visit should cover.

By the Exodus Heating & Air service team

Short answer

Twice a year: a cooling tune up in spring before the heat arrives, and a heating tune up in fall. Heat pumps, the most common system in the Triangle, run in both seasons, so both visits matter. Change or check filters every one to three months.

Spring: cooling

Clean the outdoor coil after pollen season, flush the condensate drain, test the capacitor and contactor, and check refrigerant temperatures and airflow.

Fall: heating

Check heat pump defrost operation and auxiliary heat, or furnace ignition, flame sensing, and safety switches.

Make it easy

First time customers can book the $84.99 Precision Tune Up. Or let us handle both visits with the Comfort Membership.
