Ductwork and airflow

Fix the rooms that never feel right.

Uneven temperatures are rarely about the thermostat. Leaky, crushed, or undersized ducts and poor return air are some of the most common comfort problems in Triangle homes.

Short answer

Weak airflow and hot rooms are usually caused by leaking or disconnected ducts in the attic or crawl space, undersized returns, crushed flex duct, or closed and blocked vents. We measure static pressure and room airflow to find the cause before recommending changes.

Problems we solve

  • Upstairs much hotter than downstairs in summer
  • Weak airflow from some vents
  • Whistling returns or doors that slam when the system starts
  • Disconnected or damaged ducts in attics and crawl spaces
  • Dusty homes from leaky return ducts

How we approach it

We measure total static pressure and room by room airflow, inspect accessible ductwork, and look at return air sizing. Then we recommend the smallest fix that solves the problem, whether that is sealing, balancing, adding a return, resizing a run, or a mini split for a space ducts cannot reach.

More homeowner resources
Will closing vents downstairs push air upstairs?

Usually not much, and it can raise system pressure. A balancing or return air fix is often the better answer.

Should my ducts be cleaned?

Sometimes. Sealing leaky returns often matters more. We will tell you honestly whether cleaning would help.
